Weekly Digest #75: Classroom Management - Teaching Students Appropriate Behavior and Building Relationships

Get ready for some resources you can listen to on your commutes or while taking a stroll around the neighborhood! In this digest, we present 5 resources to help you improve your class management skills, including how to build relationships with your students to improve the classroom environment. All of these resources are great for teachers, but parents may find some of them interesting too! And, since Yana and Megan are starting the Learning Scientists Podcast and preparing to release the first episodes this month (!!), we've been listening to a lot of educational podcasts. For our readers who like to listen to podcasts, or who aren't yet in the podcasting world but want to join in, the resources today are all podcasts you can listen to. 1) Classroom Management: 4 Keys to Starting the Year off Right by Jennifer Gonzalez, @cultofpedagogy, Cult of Pedagogy Podcast

3) Speaking of Psychology: Disciplining children effectively by American Psychological Association, @APAScience

Audrey Hamilton interviews Alan E. Kazdin, PhD, about the best ways to discipline children at a variety of ages based on psychological science. Teachers and parents both may find this interesting.

Speaking of Psychology is a fantastic evidence-based podcast that covers many other important topics such as keeping the brain fit, how to talk to teen boys about dating and sex, understanding mass violence, the good and bad of peer pressure, preventing suicide, and more!

James Sturtevant shares the importance of building teacher-student relationships, has some great ideas about becoming more approachable.
