Weekly Digest #63: Summer Safety

It's summer! And in addition to helping your kids make the most of their summers, we hope you're also helping them enjoy the wonderful weather. Of course, some of the best summer activities can also be extremely dangerous if you're not well-informed. This week's digest provides information about summer safety. We don't post this to be downers, but rather want to give you important information so that you and your families can enjoy the summer without mishap!

Water safety is extremely important. Read this article to find out what Safe Kids Worldwide is doing to help.  You can also check out their water safety page for some important facts about water-related death and injury.

2) Are Your Kids Staying Safe While Riding? By Max Samis on Safe Kids Worldwide, @safekids

Wearing a helmet can reduce the likelihood of injury by up to 85%. This article presents a new research report on keeping kids safe while on wheels. They also have a great infographic!

Another great resource with a lot of clickable links. If you're interested in learning more about water safety, noticing heat-related illness symptoms, or how to make your backyard a tick free zone, check out this resource!

5) Summer Safety by Kids Health, @KidsHealth

Finally, this resource has TONS of information with easy hyperlink navigation. The info is organized into a number of areas such as fun in the sun, parks and camping, and travel tips.  Importantly, they have a number of printables for parents related to first aid. The guides are brief and to the point, and let parents or caretakers know what they can do in minor situations, and how to recognize when you should seek medical attention.
